What is the best way for a visitor to go from La Guardia Airport to the Vincci Avalon hotel?

It's on 16 E 32nd St.

If I take a train to the Grand Central Station, is it too long a walk from there to the hotel? Is it too long a walk if I'm dragging a suitcase? Should I simply take a cab instead?

Take the M60 bus to Hoyt Avenue and 31st Street (this is 31st Street in Queens not Manhattan) then get on the downtown N train and take that to Lexington Avenue and 59th Street then take the downtown 6 train to 33rd Street.

DO NOT PATRONIZE THAT HOTEL, THERE HAS BEEN A HUGE STRIKE, PICKETING LINE AND ALL OUTSIDE FOR THE PAST 3 WEEKS, THEY TREAT THEIR EMPLOYEES LIKE CRAP AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE A QUIET OR PLEASANT TRIP. TAKE A CAB FROM LAGUARDIA PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION WILL BE TOO DIFFICULT, STANDARD RATE IS 45 PLUS TIP AND TOLL.

How should I dress for a hotel job interview?

I am 31 and next week I am scheduled for a hotel job interview at this four-star hotel, for a customer assistant position.

how should I dress?

I have very long hair and I never know how to style it.

Any advice will be truly appreciated.

I always wear a suit and blouse to an interview. Hair should just be tidy/smart

this dress is cute and professional

and for hair i would say glam waves! :]]

I would wear clean and smart court shoes, good pair of trousers (probably black, can't go wrong) and a smart shirt or jumper. Smart, comfortable and practicle. I've got long hair and often tie it up in a bun for work or riding my bike.

wear some plain black tailored trousers and a blouse with small heals, simple earrings and not much makeup. straighten your hair then tie it into a low pony tail. =) good luck hun

Trouser Suit. Smart shirt. Black shoes. Along them lines.

i think you should dress like a waiter hope i helped is not a joke s is only what i can think

Why is a hotel price on Yahoo different from the actual price?

I searched for a hotel in Chicago and found the Fisher Building for $29.00 a night. But when I checked the availability to make a reservation, the minimum cost was $199 a night!!

I think it is a ploy to hook you in. A couple of years ago, I wanted to go on holiday. Kept finding "1 week, only £99.00". Took the phone number off the internet and the actual price of the holiday was £250 - a slight difference! I asked how come the two prices were so vastly different. I was fed some bo***cks about the price they advertised did not take into account any further charges the holiday complex might add. I got a cheap holiday by booking one from a newspaper which actually had the real price of the holiday.

It may well be that for your $29 a night, you have to live there for a couple of years to get that discount!

There's no regulation. You can check 10 different sites and get 10 different prices.

$29.00--- that's low! Could someone have made a typo in the advertisement?

communication Gap.

How do I find a place to stay in Manchester, England for one month that isn't a hotel?

I'm looking specifically for a place in Altrincham, near Manchester. I'll be traveling with my husband and my 10 yr old daughter and we need a place to stay from March 29th to April 29th. We don't want to stay in a hotel. We would like to rent a house or apartment for just the month if possible.

HI, you may find it hard to get a place for only 1 month. you may want to try a UK travel agent or searching on-line for extended stay suites or extended stay bed and breakfasts that offer private rooms and area's.

I have seen in staffordshire area about an hour south of Manchester, a local pub/Inn had a apartment above it that they rented on a month to month basis for only about 250 a month and it was a very nice place. most lodging in the UK is sorted out through agents.

also try a site called www.nestmove.com they ususaly handle temporary residences for corporate people but may be able to help.

good luck!

How old do you have to be to rent a hotel room in Japan?

How old do you have to be to rent a hotel room in Japan?,

More specificaly Tokyo,

I want to go next year for my 16th birthday.

Age matters in the sense that you need a major credit card to stay at most hotels around the world, Japan included. If you can speak Japanese, you could probably talk to an small local hotel and get a room. In general, minors asking for hotel rooms is difficult. Also, think about purchasing airline tix, and your passport.

There is age restriction for staying Love Hotels but business hotels and other hotels are usually accept teenagers.

It depends on the each Hotel.

A credit card is not always required for staying Hotel in Japan.

Usually, you pay the bill when you CHECK IN the hotel.

And when you check out you pay the phone bill etc.....whatever you owe.

Some Hotel just need a parents consent letter for underage customers, so best thing is you find a hotel and ask the hotel what is rule for a minor.

This is a Hotel Okura Tokyo's rule for a minor.

未成年者のみのã"宿泊は、保護者の許可のない限り、お断りいたします。

This means you have to have a parents consent letter.

Under 18 is considered as "under age" in Japan.

And each prefectures has different local ordinance regarding people under age. The ordinance is regarding juvenile protection, teen's crime and sex, etc.

Some hotels may ask you to show your parent's agreement to stay alone or call your parents from the hotel. It depends. Also you have to show your passport when you check in.

Try hostels.

Is there a hotel that is actually inside Disney world?

I haven't been to Disney World in Orland Fl in some years, but now I have a 14 year old and a 1 1/2 year old. I am wondering if there is a hotel that is actually inside the Disney World park? I'm talking walk out your room and you are inside the park? I know there are "disney resorts" but you still have to drive to get there- and if there isn't any in the park- what would you suggest in the disney area?

No, there are NO Disney World resorts that are located within one of the 4 theme parks. The closer resorts to the theme parks have a walkway or a ferry to the park.

For example, in the Magic Kingdom resort area, the Contemporary resort has a walkway that leads right to the Magic Kingdom. In the Epcot/Hollywood Studios area, you can walk to the parks from Disney's Boardwalk or hop a ferry from the Boardwalk/Yacht & Beach Club, or either of the Swan and Dolphin resorts (although those are NOT Disney-owned).

When you ask for suggestions for hotels in the "disney area", are you referring to the Magic Kingdom theme park, or are you asking for the closest hotels to the Walt Disney World Resort complex itself (which includes the 4 theme parks, 2 water parks, and so forth)?

yes technically but it is not a hotelit is a prize that is to be won for the "Year of a Million Dreams" you have to be in the right place at the right time and the location fro where a winner is pick is changed everyday

"On June 7, 2006, it was announced by Disney that the suite would be completely decorated and upholstered as a 'royal bedchamber', which can sleep up to six people. It has become available as a prize during the Year of a Million Dreams celebration taking place at all eleven Disney theme parks, and an overnight stay in the apartment will be a prize randomly awarded to a guest at the four Walt Disney World theme parks and Downtown Disney."

Walt Disney World is a huge resort made up of 4 major parks, 2 water parks, the downtown Disney complex, a sports complex and many hotels. Every room on the property is inside the WDW resort, but none are within any of the parks.

Which park are you wanting to be near? If you want to be near Magic Kingdom, there are 3 resorts that are on the MK monorail: Grand Floridian, Polynesian, and the Contemporary.

There is the Cinderella suite in the castle in the Magic Kingdom, but it cost about 3500 per night I believe.

Technically all of the Disney Resorts are inside the Disney World "park" property. All of the roads connecting the resorts and parks are on private disney property. None of the hotels are inside Magic Kingdom to my knowledge.

One nice thing they have now is free shuttle buses from all of the Disney Resort hotels to all of the parks. Or if you stay at one of the hotels that has the monorail running through it, you can just hop on that.

If you drive and stay at one of the Disney Resorts, they will give you a parking pass that will get you into all of the theme park parking lots for free. But only if you're staying at one of the resorts. I think it's easier to take the shuttle bus personally, but I guess it varies family to family. :)

Have fun!

The 2 hotels previously mentioned are right on the Monorail and closest to the parks - I think the Grand Floridian is also on the Monorail. The Animal Kingdom Lodge has animals in view right from your window which might be cool.

Here is a link to the Deluxe resorts:

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/hotels/?facetNameng:hasResortCategoryFacet=facetValueng:deluxe

All the resorts have bus or boat transportation to the parks so you don't have to drive anywhere. I happen to like the Port Orleans Riverside myself of the moderate resorts.

As others have said The Contemporary and Grand Floridian have the monorail. But I would suggest Pop Century because you are going to visit other parks besides Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Pop Century is only about $82 per night regularly (now they are having a special rooms are only $65) and they give your transportation around the Walt Disney World Resort and to your hotel from Orlando International Airport free.

Here is Pop Century's Website:

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/res...

No, none of the resort hotels are actually IN the theme park, where you could just walk down a flight of stairs and you're in Tomorowland. However, there are a few resorts which the other answerers have mentioned that are located on the property of or very close by to the theme parks.

no there are not any like that. but the Contemporary Resort, Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and the Polynesian Resort are on the monorail path. So you can ride the monorail from any of these resorts to Magic Kingdom or Epcot.

I reccomend the Contemporary Resort

I work at the Magic Kingdom and yes you have to be either extremely rich or lucky to win a night staying at the Cinderella Suite inside of the castle the Make a Wish foundation does have some of that luck for obvious reason they use the room a few times a year

The Contemporary Resort is right down the sidewalk from the Magic Kingdom. The Boardwalk, Swan, Dolphin, Yacht Club, and Beach Club are about a 10-15 walk to Epcot. They are also a 20min walk to the Studios.

There are may Disney Resorts inside Walt Disney World, but there is none inside a theme park. THere are hotels very close to a park that it's only a short boat ride. But none inside a park.

No, there are no hotels inside the parks themselves (except for the Cinderella Suite located in Cinderella Castle, but I don't think anyone stays there unless you're extremely rich).

I recommend the Boardwalk. It's walking distance to EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios. And no, you do not have to walk on the street. You can simply go down to the main lobby, go out the back and stroll along the actual boardwalk. The only parks that aren't easily reached are Animal Kingdom, Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, and Downtown Disney. The walks to EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios are about 10 minutes each and they're in opposite directions. If you do not want to walk, there is boat transportation to Disney's Hollywood Studios and EPCOT called the Friendships. However, this takes a much longer time to arrive at your destination because it goes very slowly and it stops at the Yacht and Beach Clubs, the Boardwalk, and the Swan and Dolphin Resorts. So if it's night and you're leaving Disney's Hollywood Studios and you don't want to walk home the entire way, you can take the boat to Swan and Dolphin Resorts and then walk the rest of the way to the Boardwalk. That way you get a little rest and the walk is only about five minutes from there.

If you wish to visit the Magic Kingdom (and have the Park Hopper option on your pass) you can walk through EPCOT and then take the Monorail to the Magic Kingdom. If you want to visit any of the other parks that aren't reached as easily, you have to use the Disney buses (free bus transportation in WDW) or a rental car. Personally, a rental car isn't worth it; you really won't need it unless you plan on traveling anywhere else besides Disney World (i.e. Universal Studios, Seaworld, etc). Also, you can take the Magical Express from the airport to your designated hotel. You don't need to pay for this transportation and each bus is assigned to different Disney resorts. It will all be explained when you get there.

There are many shops (Screen Door General Store, etc), restaurants (Flying Fish, ESPN Club, Boardwalk Bakery, etc) and clubs (Jellyrolls and Atlantic Dance Hall are both 21+). I really enjoy getting up in the morning and being able to grab a quick bite to eat at the bakery. Their food is amazing. The pools are great as well. I especially like the main pool, Luna Park, because it's huge and the slide is really fun. There's also a poolside eatery that has various sandwiches and drinks from around 10:00AM to 9:00PM. The nightlife is excellent. If you do not want to go to the parks, you can just walk around on the boardwalk and there are numerous street performers like magicians and stunt people that kids love! They're pretty spectacular.

The Boardwalk is definitely my favorite hotel. Here's a link to the Boardwalk website at www.waltdisneyworld.com:

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/destinations/disneys-boardwalk/

This includes virtual tours and pricing.

Here's the website for the Boardwalk Villas. If you do not want to pay to stay in the villas, then you can stay at the Boardwalk Inn which is the same exact thing but different kinds of rooms. The other sites are exactly the same, so disregard the room shown because that is a villa.

What is the cheapest way to get from LGA airport to a downtown NYC hotel? What is the quickest way?

I've been to NYC only a few times and I tend to use cabs. Are there better options to get from LGA airport to a downtown hotel (assume the hotel doesn't have its own shuttle)?

Thanks.

train... or taxi....call around and get a professional car service... train/subway will be the cheapest, but also the longest. taxi is probably the most cost effective and fastest.... getting a professional car service will be the fastest and the most expensive.

Cheapest.........walk. Quickest........helicopter.

It depends on where you want to go downtown. The M60 bus takes you to 125 and Lex (4,5.6 trains) then I guess you'd have to figure out where you're going downtown.

yea...the subway....2 dollars....it might not be that quick but u wont hit traffic.....u could take the M60 bus to 125 and then take the 4 train downtown and get off where u wanna go

What are the best ways to promote a full service hotel through marketing and advertising?

What are the best ways to promote a full service hotel through marketing and advertising

by posting advertisement at classifieds websites, http://www.bokrin.com

The best ways are to promote a hotel, as used by expert hotel marketing people are:

1. Advertise special offers and promotions. Two nights for the price of one or two nights with a free meal are a great way to raise profile and attract guests. Guests spend more than just the night rate, they eat and drink in hotels too

2. Sponsor local raffles with prizes of a free night away. Chances are that the winner will book an additional night. Make sure to sponsor prizes from out of town - unlikely that locals will want to stay in a local hotel.

3. Advertise the extra, full services you have. You need to highlight your USP - Unique Selling Point.

4. Use Search Engine Optimisation, but research SEO properly. Engage in a number of companies, don't just talk to one company.

5. Talk to a PR company to help get announcements, news and special offers into the press

6. Make sure your website is useful, works and is up to date. All your marketing and advertising information should direct people to your site

7. The easiest way to get people in is through a hotel booking engine, like www.hotels.com or www.mustbook.ie

8. Create a loyalty Marketing scheme to attract, reward and keep regular travellers, particularly business travellers

Find websites that cater for people in your hotel's area, and see if they have advertising space on their site.

Make sure you have brochures for your hotel in your local tourist information places.

Advertise on travel sites.

Get your hotel reviewed by as many people as possible. There are hotel review websites that you could submit your hotel to.

Some of the ways you can advertise your business are:

1. Post an article about your business on related blogs and get free visitors and back links

2. Submitting to directories

3. Free classifieds

4. Forums

Does anyone else think that the hotel that refused the soldier should be investigated?

I think it is beyond words that a soldier who had just been injured in Afghanistan should be refused the opportunity to stay in an hotel. I think the ownership and management should be investigated. They have yet to put their heads above the parapet but I should like to know who these cowards are. There are laws for all kinds of discrimination in Britain and this is surely discrimination. They are now saying that the hotel has no such ruling and blaming it on the Receptionist. What do you think?

Surely if someone can be prosecuted for discrimination in the workplace & for colour, race & whatever then here,s a case for the full implementation of the law, no good saying it,s the receptionist the buck should always stop at top management.

As an ex serviceman I have two points of view on this question, firstly it sounds absolutely horrendous that any hotel could take this attitude, and I think the management will be rightly embarrassed about it.

On the other hand there is another point of view that has not been mentioned or perhaps thought of.

When I came out of the RAF I tried to stay in a hotel in Brekon and they actually had a sign on the door which said that the army were not welcome and I was rightly annoyed.

But it is a sad fact of life that where there are barracks for young soldiers, there is often trouble with excessive drinking and brawling, hotels and pubs are within their rights to ban people they consider to be trouble.

I read about this ban but I don't know if it was near such barracks.

Please don't think I'm siding with the hotel, I'm certainly not, but I do like a balanced view.

A hotel is a business and should have the right to refuse business to anyone as long as there isn't a pattern of discrimination as defined by law. If it really was the receptionist and not policy, the business can show this by terminating the receptionist.

The public has a right to react to a business decision. Refusing to use that hotel or chain would be appropriate reaction.

Investigation isn't necessary.

The receptionist has been used, and if you want disgraceful,

the story widely reported of soldiers who had been injured, lost limbs in combat, and were at a public swimming pool and a woman complained that her swimming and enjoyment was being interfered with seeing these disabled servicemen.. And the poor guys were asked to leave. I would have horsewhipped the woman and sacked the manager of the leisure centre.

I don't disagree with the questioner, but having lived very close to Woking I do know that there are a lot of service personnel in the area and they can be quite 'lively' as Ron mentioned.

What shocks me the most is that there used to be facilities for our servicemen that have disappeared. For example there were a couple o soecialised army hospitals in the area, but they seem to have been closed down.

There should be hotels, pubs clubs and anything else that offer discounts a special offers to serving personnel not bar them

Obviously the receptionist is being used as a scapegoat and yes this hotel should be thoroughly investigated as this is blatant discrimination - they should be ashamed of themselves

" I think the owners and those responsible should be taken out to the war zone and be made to go out on point with that lads patrol , ide bet they would soon change there attitudes to the armed services then "

an investigation would solve nothing...the damage is already done & they are keeping fairly quiet about it...maybe they should compensate him somehow....terrible thing though!

Yes it's disgusting, typical of management blame it on the poor receptionist

No. Just avoided. People should shun the hotel. There's no greater punishment than zero profits.

What company owns the hotel chain?

Many years ago signs in Norfolk VA use to say, Dogs and Sailors keep off the grass.

How Does Internet Access at a Hotel Work?

Many hotels provide internet access now. After plugging the network cable in to the PC, a browser needs to be opened. The browser automatically opens a web page with the hotel terms of service and usually a login button. How does this work? How does the web page automatically show up in the browser? How is network access restricted until the terms of service are agreed to? How is network access granted after the terms of service have been agreed to?

Any time you log onto the hotel network you get a temporary IP address like a phone number. When you attempt to access the internet with a browser. The entire network is designed to direct all network requests through a single web server. The web server then looks for an encrypted cookie on your computer's hard drive if you don't have it then the web server pulls up the "please log on and agree" page. When you agree to the terms and pay the fee the web page puts the encrypted key on your hard drive and instructs the router to let your IP Address through to the internet until you log off or go out of range.

Then the next time when you come back the network gives you a new IP Address, and then you type www.yahoo.com or whatever, the network takes you to the web server, the web server pulls up your encrypted key, and then when the web server sees the encrypted key it instructs the router to give your new IP address access to the internet until you log on or go out of range. If you clear the cookies on your browser you may have to log in each time you want to access the internet.

Its basically just special software on their router. I assume that is the ammount of detail you want.

hope that helps :)

What are some outlandish amenities you would like in a hotel?

There are no limitations on money or anything. Examples include sand floors (real sand, like squish), and wave pools inside hotel.

I would have to say a sauna and on call masseurs/masseuse for every room I would enjoy that thoroughly

Hookers!

Would a hotel hire a seventeen year old to work front desk?

Well, I'll be seventeen this summer and I plan on going into hotel management. I think working at a hotel or at least getting my foot in the door would be a good experience.

Do you think local hotels would hire me? I have my own car and am rather ambitious, but I'm afraid my age would be a deterrent. I would like to work reception.

Also, I live close to the beach. So I know there will be a bit of tourists coming in this summer if it's relevant.

Well if they see that you are cut out for the job I see no reason for them not to hire you at all. But, of course there are other issues like parental consent and legal age (I dont know about the policies in your country, but here in the Philippines, one should at least be 16 y/o to be eligible to work).

Wishing you all the luck in the world!

You should just go into the hotels around you and ask to talk to a hiring manager. Find out what positions they need, and the age limits they might have. It's always good when applying for a job to talk to the manager right away, it's a good impression.

It depends. You only need to be 16 to operate a register in most states but usually they hire 18 year olds just in case. You could probably be a bellhop or housekeeper though.

If I were you, I'd apply at the airport as a porter. They make hella tips and it's a similar job style to a hotel. Looks great on a resume also.

How to get from LaGuardia Airport NY to Sheraton Airport Hotel NJ cheaply?

This summer, I will be visting NY for the first time . My flight and hotel arrangements have already been made and I need help getting directions to and from. And I'm trying to find the cheapest way to do it. Does anyone from NYC have any suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Wow you are a gluten for punishment. If a travel agent booked this arrangement, sue them.

There are no trains from LGA, only ground transportation. To get to Newark NJ from LGA you can take a bus (M60) to 125th Street and Manhattan and then make your way south to The Port Authority Bus terminal or to Penn Station for a train to Newark.

OR

take the M60 to Astoria Blvd and take the N or W trains to 42nd st (a block from the Post authority), or to 34th st (a block from Penn Station)

If I were stuck with this trip, I would take an Airport Van/Bus service to Penn Station and then tak NJ transit train to Newark. This is more expensive, but if you have luggage the prior method will encounter many stairways for you to go up and down.

BTW - Newark is not a very safe place for travelers.

hey, i don't live in NY but i took your exact route. There's a train from LaGuardia which will take you to a station/maybe a terminal ( i'm sory i can't remember which, ask around) where the hotel drivers pick guests' up. Sheraton NJ have free shuttles frequently to and from the terminal/station.

Btw, people in NYC don't know these stuff. they don't come out here. they have no reason to.

How much do hotel line cooks make?

I've got an interview tomorrow at the Hilton Hotel for a line cook position. I was wondering if anyone had any idea how much I might be making hourly at this position?

All your help would be truly appreciated. Even if you aren't 100 percent sure give me an estimate or something please!

Thanks ya'll!

5-15

Ive been there done that .

It depends on what city your in and if its Union. Some Hilton's kitchens are Union.

Assuming its Non Union and in a busy city your looking at 9.00 to 15.00 an hour Union is about 9.35 - to 18.50 an hour for line cooks.

Also it depends on your experience .

So Lets assume its your first cooking job . you may have to prove your abilities to get anywhere close to top dollar .

Ask the interviewer how often they review for raises & what the average raise is .

Wear your Chefs clothes and non skid shoes to your interview , If you have them , come to the interview as if your ready to start cooking and don't be surprised if he, she asks you to step in the kitchen and prepare something off the cuff, or on the fly. if that's the case first thing you do is look to see if any of the other cooks are wearing food prep gloves and if so , Wash your hands & grab a pair before you even start anything . Its like a trick question.

a 2 egg omelet are winners and so are chicken breast sandwiches. ( secret sauce for cajun chicken sandwich is a little mayo with gray poupon mustard). If they make you wait , You should grab a menu . Tell them it looks like a great menu to work with. Also Hilton's like to be stroked so tell them what they want to hear .. Like your very excited to be part of the Hilton Family.

If your lucky it will be non union . Otherwise you pay dues out of every pay. Making the 9.35 now 7 an hour due to dues and taxes.

In all my years cooking we never needed the union and it felt like extortion every time I paid my dues.

Good Luck .

You Can do it .

Depends on experience. I've been a line cook for about 6 years now (i'm 24) and I work at 2 restaurants. I make different amounts because of seniority but blah blah blah.

If you feel confident in your ability to kick *** on the line when it comes down to it then ask for about $10-$12 an hour.

Otherwise $9 is a good starting place.. but really depends on experience.

It changes from job to job but the average is $10 per hour.

solidlog gave some solid advice. If you are asked to prepare anything, first thing you ever do is WASH YOUR HANDS. Also, if you prepare any raw product, inquire about the location of sanitizer (there will probably be bleach water buckets with rags).

Check for your states health department guidelines. NYS is pretty strict, so look up theirs. Every kitchen manager/chef would LOVE a guy on hand that can follow procedural guidelines. Basically, if you follow a procedure, you'll follow his/her instructions. No manager wants to deal with a "free spirit" in the kitchen.

Express your passion for the food service industry, as well as your desire for upward growth with the company. Do this carefully though, like you'd be honored by any opportunity with them, not like they owe you something. You want to leave them with a very "blue collar" feeling about you when you're done talking. Know that you won't get anything you haven't earned, and let them know you're aware of this.

As far as pay goes, anyone will just say it depends on experience. If you had a previous line cook position in your area, I would say logically it must be close to that.

Good Luck!

How old do you have to be to rent a hotel room in Vancouver?

just wondering. was hoping to stay in a hotel downtown, but i might just have to go to the hostel or somewhere else instead. thank you

Yeah It's definetly 18.

I think it's 18 but I know when my son wanted to rent a room downtown, he couldn't without having a visa card, which they "held" at the front desk until checkout. I guess this was in case they did any damage to the room.

In the USA 18 Canada the same...

How old do you need to be to book a Hotel room in Japan?

I'm going there this summer. I will be 18 and I am interested in staying in a hotel.

To book a hotel room in japan you must be at least 3 years of age.

If you say you are 20 years of age, they'll believe you are, and if you say you are 25 years old, they'll believe you are 25 years old. In Japan basically you don't have to show your ID to do anything like you might have to in your country. Only some prestigious hotels may require you to show your passport. But anyway if you're 18 years old, there's absolutely no problem.

In Japan there is no age restriction to stay hotel in law or rule. You must present passport to check-in and the reservation shall be highly recommended of course though.

Can anyone help me find the history of the Whitney hotel in Minneapolis?

I know that the original flour mill was built in 1879 and that Hyatt purchased the property in 1997. I'm wondering what year the building opened as a hotel?

Yikes! You're making me feel old and I've never worked harder on finding an answer!! (Finding a videographer for you was much easier! Looked at your Yahoo name after I answered the question and said...Gee, that name looks familiar!)

I worked for a hotel down the street from the Whitney--and even after trying to find a date for when it became 'The Whitney', I can only guess the very early 1990's. But this was bugging me, so I went hunting.... (You owe me a drink...LOL)

Was able to dig up city records and as far as I could go, it looks like the fall of 1992 (give or take a week, November 1992) is when they opened as a hotel.

Right now, the Standard Mill, better known as The Whitney Hotel, is undergoing another transformation: Posh riverfront condos neighboring the Mill City Museum and new Guthrie Theatre called The Whitney Landmark Residences....$$$$$$$

The 2nd link is to a great line about the Whitney:

(While at 1st Avenue--the dance club).....I was on the packed main floor for an Ike & Tina Turner concert in the mid-1970s when I suddenly realized that I was standing face to face with Tina as she inched her way through the crowd to the stage. Boy, she's short. About 15 years later, I had dinner with her at the Whitney Hotel.....

OR.... Who says the young don't have a sense of history...The Whitney Hotel Corp., which claims the late grunge rock star Kurt Cobain followed a long and storied tradition and trashed the upscale Minneapolis hotel during a 1993 stay...

Love Minneapolis!

What is an appropriate tip for a maid at a hotel?

Do you leave a tip for the maid staff at a hotel? What is the appropriate amount? I usually leave up to $5 with a thank you, but I want to be fair. Is there a rule? What do you leave?

I tip the maid according to how messy I am on any particular day. I usually leave $2.00 per day of normal cleaning and after I left a pile of sand in the tub from my shower after going to the beach I left $7.00.

I leave $2 a night per person in an average hotel. Classy hotel, it should be more.

I think it depends on the rating of the hotel, the number of guests and also how messy you are. When we go away my husband leaves $5 a day and if we need extra towels or toiletries I will ask the maid at the cart, give her my room number and slip her a ten

Are there any hotel rooms available for the Inauguration?

I really want to go to DC for this historical event, but I am having a really hard time finding a hotel room for January 18th - 21st.

Any suggestions?

Unfortunately it's unlikely you will find anything. As the first response said, even if you do find something, there's a 3-night minimum (which it sounds like you're willing to do) and it will be EXTREMELY expensive due to the high demand (for obvious reasons). People book hotels for the week of inauguration WAY in advance and hotels know that they will fill up so they can charge whatever they want and people will pay. And especially since this is such an historic inauguration... demand I'm sure is going to be ridiculously high.

Yes, there are rooms available. I know a Maryland based charter bus company that can assist you with accomodations even if you don't need their travel services. Their staff is professional and very eager to make your dreams a reality. Don't miss the opportunity to witness the most historic events in America. Visit their website at www.milesaway.biz or email them at info@milesaway.biz. They pride themselves with answering all email inquiries within a timely manner. They realize this is a huge event and all travel and accomodations are time sensitive. Don't waste time, contact them right away:)

I have hotel rooms. This is not a scam. I am a legitimate travel agent http://www.turtlecreektravel.com is my site, Turtle Creek Travel is my company. You can contact me at charles@turtlecreektravel.com

My rooms in DC at Dupont Circle and surrounding areas. Rooms start at $500 per night with a three to four night minimum depending on the hotel, and I am charging a $500 service fee per room to each buyer.

I am looking for hotels too. I was there recently celebrating Obama's triumph. Very expensive area, just because is DC. A lot of parking problems and the police is hungry to give tickets because they make their money on that. The license plates there say: "Taxation without representation" so imagine.

There are rooms, but it's very scarce (and expensive, depending on where you end up).

Most hotels have at least a 3 night minimum stay in place -- some have 4 or more -- so consider shifting your dates when you check rates.

How old do you have to be to get a hotel room?

Here's the deal. My friends and I are planning on going to Secaucus, New Jersey from June 8-10 for a Halo 2 Tournament. The only problems are that none of us are 18 yet. I wanted to find out if you have to be 18 or 21 to get a room, and if so, is it possible to make arrangements with a hotel beforehand and get permission from a parent?

most cases 21...

In most jurisdictions, you have to be old enough to sign a legal contract...18.

However, if you can convince your parents to pony-up the steep damage deposit (via a credit card), and agree to pay for the room(s), you shouldn't have much trouble.

it really depends on the hotel....I've gotten about three rooms and I'm 19...BUT, I've also been turned away at several becuase of my age. MANY require you to be 21....but just call around and see what you can find.

Is there a way I can make my house look more like a hotel?

I love to travel-----especially staying at hotels. Are there things I can buy to spruce up my house to make it look like a hotel---and feel like one maybe........ Ideas?

Well, you could shop hotel websites and get items that the hotel uses( Marriott and Westin have shopping sites.) Sheets and blankets should be neat and white, use duvet covers and lots of pillows with matching cases. everything should be in contrasting patterns with one theme.

Part of the look comes from the designer's minimalist approach. A room in a good hotel does not look crowded. Furnishings are sized and spaced appropriately. Tossing out some of your furniture, with an eye to creating open walkways between rooms can help. Take some pictures of rooms you enjoyed staying in. Try to apply the common themes you see there in your home. You may not need to buy more stuff, as much as lose some of the excess stuff that you have.

The hallmark of most hotels is that they are decorated at a minimal. They do not have items that represent the individual such as personnel pictures, or special personnel items. It sounds like you like a very clean crisp, uncluttered environment.

set up a breakfast buffet every morning with donuts, coffee and orange juice, then invite strangers in and let them eat them while watching CNN Headline News on your TV..

or maybe add a second queen bed to your bedroom, and make the beds up identically.

Get rid of all your personal effects too...a lot of the appeal of a motel/hotel is the fact that it is so impersonal...generic, in fact. Check the sales ads, there are usually some in the paper for hotels/motels that are remodeling or shutting down. Check the web for hotel furnishings...

Hotels, especially the more economical ones have come a long way recently in how their rooms look. I'm thinking the appeal to you may be the minimalist look that is now popular in the Marriott and Hilton brands.

If this is the look you are going towards, using soft muted colors in the bedding, multiple pillows including a bolster and going to a duvet (pretty much a slipcover over a comforter) will help achieve that look.

Many hotels have noticed the trend towards people wanting to have their rooms at home look like the hotel suites and now offer towels, bedding, even mattresses online. JC Penney, Pottery Barn and Target all offer Hotel styled merchandise now.

Is there a way I can make my house look more like a hotel?

I love to travel-----especially staying at hotels. Are there things I can buy to spruce up my house to make it look like a hotel---and feel like one maybe........ Ideas?

How can we check into a hotel without an adult, if we're minors?

My friend and I are taking a trip to San Francisco to look at colleges and stuff, but we're going alone. I'll be seventeen by then, about to be eighteen, and my friend will be sixteen (we're both Juniors though) about to be seventeen. We want to check into a hotel room because we don't want to deal with her uncle and staying at his place, but we're underage, so how can we check into the hotel without an adult?

Very likely you can't.

[Looks around, then whispers conspiratorially.]

But it might work IF you have credit cards in your own name and if you don't look really young.

But if your plan fails, what is Plan B?

You can always hire a hobo.

I'm not trying to be a jerk when I say that.

But you really can.

Or you can have your parents do it.

Or you can ask a nice looking stranger to do it.......

Just have the adult check you in and you can check yourselves out.

have a valid ID and money of course... i'm sure they will let you...

How many square feet should the base be for a 50-60 story hotel?

Im taking a CAD class in school and we are assigned to create the floor plans of a hotel. I already have a design in mind and I want to have it around 50-60 stories tall. Its not circular or triangular but more of a square base. So how many square feet should the base be?

Also, how many square feet is a standard hotel room (the average)?

50 stories, you'll need at least 4 elevator shafts. Plus the room for the stairs.

Hotel room size vary for simple (and small) to lavish, multilevel penthouse suites (some with their private elevator), so there is no standard. But a 50 story hotel would normally be expected to be in an area where land is expensive, and the hotel would then cater to affluent patrons who expect and are willing to pay for large accommodations.

How big the floor plan depends on how many rooms you need, how big you want each to be, and so on. Check out the SkyScraper site (see link) that will give you an idea of how wide building are as a function of how tall they are. But also how much variation there is.

a hotel room should probably be around 200-300 sqft. for the base of the hotel, you need to calculate that.

How old do you have to be to get a hotel room in NC?

Whats the age requirements for renting a room in NC?

Is it legal for an 18 year old to rent a hotel room for their self and a 21 year old?

18 is legal and I don't know why anyone would think you have to be 25. At 18 you are an adult and can make your own decisions. Just know that if any damage occurs you will be held responsible. You are also responsible for any phone calls or movies rented on pay per view!

it is legal but most hotels want you to be at least 25 just because the older you are the less likely it will be that you will damage the room.

25 in most places

How do you get an odor out of your clothes. Two washings, and they still smell like the hotel I stayed in.?

I stayed at a hotel for a week. The chest of drawers made my clothes smell like sulfer. After two washings, the odor is just as strong. I would hate to throw 400.00 worth of clothes away. I need some help.

Add a cup of white vinegar in the final rinse.:)

try vinegar in your wash, then Downy in rinsed, or hang them out side in the air

Try more fabric softener.

Use hot water on the ones that won't shrink, warm water on the others. Put white vinegar in the rinse water. Hang outside on a sunny day.

If you can use hot water and some Pine Soil it should get it . If you can not use hot water us Warm.

Baking soda. More than the recommended amount wont hurt.

You can try adding some baking soda to the wash

Have you tried Tide with febreeze?

The easiest and best way to get odors out of clothes is to use Odoban. This is sold at Sam's. I have used it for years to clean my kids sports clothes, bedding, etc. and boy does it work! You just throw a cup in with the wash. Before I used this I tried the vinegar and baking soda and had no luck. I've even thrown my kids shin guards from soccer in the wash with it and anyone that has gone through the smell of these and lived to tell about it will verify that Odoban is some powerful stuff if it works on them. Hope this helps!

Try some vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser. This usually will get rid of odors.

What is the price range for breakfast in the Warwick Hotel in New York?

Everything is about $10 tops.

Where can I find pictures and plans for a hotel project?

The hotel project is about 15-25 units and will probably be in a U Sshape. I want a small reception area pool area and coffee shop. Lots of trees and vegetation everywhere, since we are in Costa Rica. I plan on using prefabricated construction but, am told I need to come up with ideas. I know there has to be some plans to look at somewhere where I can adapt it to my project but, am frustrated trying to find something.

Where is a good airport hotel by Minneapolis?

We are arriving late into the airport so will only be at the hotel for 8 hours? Can anyone recommend a clean, cheap hotel that has a free shuttle service to and from the airport.

Hampton Inn and Suites. They do have a shuttle. They have two of them in close proximity to the airport. I suggest there.

Days Inn, or the Hampton Inn are two that I can think of off the top of my head.

You should just stay up and party all night.

the hilton airport, shuttle, breakfast, quiet

Is it safe to leave a dog in a hotel room?

When traveling, Is it safe to leave a dog in a hotel room while out sightseeing in the states or overseas?

Has anyone had any incident ?

Has anyone had a maid steal from them before?

well i think it would be fine

as long as ur dog doesnt bark

all the time or nething.

but i would just put the

"do not disturb" sign on the door

and turn on the tv so it sounds like

someones in there watching tv.

and probly close your blinds too.

I think it would be ok as long as it's not a VERY down and out motel like Motel 6 or something. The only issue I can think of is possibly having the dog escape when the maid opens the door. I highly doubt a maid would steal a dog though...if their going to steal something it would be money haha

But yah it should be ok

no i don't think its a good idea. maybe u could tell the hotel staff to look after the dog instead while u're gone.

Did anyone know that how much does the tibits charge in the hotel chinese restaurant?

Excuse me, did anyone know that how much does the tibits (peanuts) charge in the hotel chinese restaurant? Chinese restaurant such as Orchard hotel, Shang palace, Hua Ting, Jiang Nan Chung & Jade. Anyone give me a perfect answers will get marks.. Thx.

They charge in the range from $4-$5

The answer to your question: The tibits charge nothing. If you are actually asking what the food charges you, it can't since its an inanimate object.

Now what this hotel or restaurant charges the patron, usually these sort of things, at least in the US are free in a restuarant, but if you are talking about the little refridgerators in a hotel room, I think the little bags of peanuts there go for around $4 in most places i have seen them.

Is it safe to travel by taxi from Southern Cross Station to Somerset Gordon Place Hotel late at night?

We are arriving at 11:35PM in Mebourne International Airport and we plan to get the Skybus Shuttle. But since its already very late, we can't get the hotel shuttle anymore in Southern Cross Station to our hotel. So can I get a taxi in Southern Cross? How safe is it? And how much will it cost if we have two large luggages in tow?

If you have other suggestions how we can get directly to the hotel we also would like to hear it.

you can get taxis from any trainstation in melbourne. it is generally very safe - melbourne is generally very safe.

I dont know how much it would cost... if your hotel is in the city, then not very much. The cost depends on the amount of kilometres between your destiniations.

Good luck - and enjoy our city - make sure you go for lots of city night walks.

No it is not safe at night particularly when you are alone. Airport taxi are safe and are equipped with cameras. If they arrive at 11.35 pm it will take about two hours to get cleared and may be more in case they have any foods or restricted goods with them

How old do you have to be to make reservations in a hotel in Nashville?

My friend and I are preparing for a trip to Nashville for a one night stay. She is 20, and I am 19. I was just wondering how old do you have to be to make reservations for a hotel/motel? Also, how do sites like priceline.com or hotels.com work? Would you have to make reservations through those sites?

A lot of help appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Booking online is the safest and easiest way to book a hotel room. Most of them work the same way -- you choose your dates, they show you what's available. You make your choice, enter in your name, credit card info, etc. and that's it.

Many folks have gotten good deals on priceline, but the biggest problem is that you don't know what hotel you are going to get.

There are a handful of places in the area that will allow y'all to check in (some places have a minimum age of 18, some 19, etc.).

Red Roof inn Nashville Brentwood

http://www.resideo.com/us/tennessee/brentwood/58152123.hotel

Quality Inn and Suites Nashville

http://www.resideo.com/us/tennessee/nashville/04749926.hotel

If you have a specific date and price-range in mind, I can give you some more options...

You are both old enough. Select a motel chain that you like in the town you live in, and go to their website. If they have motels in Nashville, just book on-line. The price will be about the same as if you used one of the travel consolidators. Enjoy your stay in Nashville.

If you have a credit card many hotels will let you stay.

I am 20 yrs old I am looking for a scholarship to study for a degree in hotel and catering management?

I have a certificate in HOTEL and Catering Management.I would not mind a working scholarship.

Where do you live? I'm in New Zealand and work at a school where you could do all that with out a scholarship. If your interested check out www.nsia.ac.nz

try your local tech. school or college.

go to your community college. I am doing the same, more on the catering business than the hotel end. They have two year programs at most community colleges.

Go online & research the colleges that offer that degree. Then look through their financial advice & see what's being offered. Many colleges do work-study.

check out Penn Foster you can get your degree or whatever you need on a monthly payment plan . I did it and I have no regrets..Just look into it ,,they will send you all the information free and they are on line any time you need them....and you can do it at your own pace as fast as you want to go and it doesnt interfere if you need to work. good luck I loved it

While vacationing in Italy, I left something in my hotel room. How should I go about getting it back?

I contacted the Hotel and they said they personally could not ship it to me, but recommended that I go to fedex, ups, or dhl. Well, a friend tried to set up pick-up from ups through the company he works with, but that didn't work out. Ups said they needed a special permit to do that? And I went on the websites for fedex and dhl and they weren't helpful at all. The mostly wanted me to just sign up for the service and there wasn't an email address that I could email with my questions. How can I get this thing back? Also, how much will it cost. It's a stuffed animal, so it does not weigh a lot.

I think it depends on what the something is. It has to be something obviously legal and easy to verify (not wrapped or potentially could have something else illegal or bad hidden inside).

If it is obviously legal and easy to verify so, then you need an understanding hotel employee. That person will have to mail it back to you. You may have to send prepackaging box or money.

However, if they are nice, they may just mail it to you for free. So you can say nice thing to others about that hotel.

Most of it depends on your luck.

So best of luck!

forget it -

I'll get it for you-what city do you live in?

If you have any friends or relatives in Italy have them send it to you , otherwise it wouldn't be worth for you to go to all the trouble of having the hotel send it to you..Too much trouble and money!!

Go to your local FedEx office. Ask for a manager to guide on how to do this.

i live near milan, contact me and let's see what we can do
