How do I book a hotel in Canada?

My fiance and I are going to Canada and we need some information regarding money. Do we need to buy traveler's cheques? Is there a money exchange at the border? Do we have to have a major credit card to book a hotel or do we use cash? I know this sounds simple, but we've never been out of the country before. Thanks!

Major credit cards are accepted in Canada , such as Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. The Discovery card is NOT accepted in Canada.

Use your credit card or debit card in Canada, to pay for things, and to get Canadian currency from ATMs' here. The transaction will be calculated by your US bank at the exchange rate for that day.

No one uses travellers cheques any more, too much hassle .

Remember that if you are FLYING into Canada, you MUST have a US passport, to get on the plane. If you drive in to Canada, you will need to have an oroginal US birth certificate ( not a photo copy ) for each of you. and a further type of US government ID card, such as a state driver's licence., for each of you.

There are ATMs all over the place in Canada so travelers cheques are not worth the hassle. It is better to change your money at the bank in your own country, you get a better rate. Depending on where you cross the boarder there might not be anything near by. It's good to have a credit card to book a hotel, not all of them ask for one. If you don't have one and pay cash they can ask for a deposit for room service and stuff.

You need a credit card to book a hotel room but you can pay with cash.

You don't have to bring traveler's cheques but I would suggest exchanging your money before you come to Canada. It's a lot simpler that way.

search hotels in canada!

Major credit cards will do it all, if you so choose. Bienvenu.
