What are the legal issues with trying to steal wireless internet at a hotel?

The hotel I am staying at is asking for $10 a day for internet. I think that is a joke considering it costs $150/ nite just to stay there. Is it possible to steal the internet and if so what kind of legal problems are there? Thanks

You can't steal it.

It's most likely locked with a password, requiring payment. Airports usually use something requiring payment before access.

Legally, it's probabaly like stealing any other utility or service.

If you think 10 bucks is outrageous, ask to speak to the manager and express that you think for the cost of the room, net should be included.

Next time stay at a budget hotel. Im surprised at how nice they have been, and net is usually free.

When you broadcast something via radio wave you give up expectation of privacy. They can do things to keep you out but cant do anything legally, not even charge you.

You are correct; it is a joke (or an insult). It depends where you live but I doubt very much that anyone would try to prosecute you for "stealing" wireless Internet. They may bill your credit card however.

dont know about stealing from that hotel but if you take your labtop close to the window the neighbors probably have an unsecured access

You could easily get fined or even jail time as it is still a form of Theft and can be used for Identity theft at the same time, however there are ways to steal the Network keys and WAP keys for wireless connections, searching around google you should be able to find a good WAP Cracker equipped with a packet tracer which should find the correct keys required to use the internet, be carful not to get caught of course

Also i highly doubt that a Hotel asking for cash to use the net will not have security placed on there router which is why a packet tracer and WAP cracker is required

If its a wireless one then just connect, you'll be gone in a week and they won't go around asking everyone for there i.p address.

If its not wireless then its impossible/not worth it.
