How early to rent a hotel?

I'm planning a senior trip to California with some friends and it's been planned for a little while. We're planning to go to the LA area for a few days at the end of June. My question is, how early do people usually make hotel reservations? I want to make sure everyone has enough time to get the amount I told them they'd need, but I don't want to miss out on good deals.

You could make them now. If you know your travel dates, you probably SHOULD make them now.

Hotels fill up around graduation time!

Most people make their reservations at least a couple months in advance, especially for popular periods in popular tourist areas. I would make the reservation ASAP, since you may find that your hotel is booked if you wait any longer.

You can reserve now but be sure to get deposits from everyone going. It will be against your credit.

I attend a very popular quilt week, I make my reservation for the following year, as I check out. One year ahead.

Make it as early as possible, and don't forget to ask for their "very best" rate.
