How much are you supposed to tip the maid in your hotel room?

I'm staying in a hotel room for five nights. Not real high end place, not a fleabag motel, just a typical $100 a night place. How much am I supposed to tip the maid when I leave?

I would leave 10 dollars. She/He would appreciate it no matter how much you leave.

Yea...right about that. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080113082238AAOBQ9L&kid=Qs0tW2O0BTnOtRSGr2Mp7l1evrgLQwSzq2HwxJ0fOfarj5Ew44P1&s=comm&date=2008-01-14+17%3A37%3A01&.crumb=

6 dollars

This is quite interesting actually - going by the dollar sign I assume you are from wither the USA or Canada, and you seem to tip a lot more than we do in Ireland or the UK.

We only tip waiting staff in restaurants and hairdressers. No one else. I would never think of tipping a maid in a hotel?

$1.50 per day, per person staying. Of course room service is extra, and so are any special services you might ask of "housekeeping".

In a place where you are paying several hundreds a night, the tip would be higher as well, since you would be a "high roller".

LOL.

I have never tipped a maid when staying in a hotel. It's not like tipping the belhop, valet service, waiter/waitress. I wouldn't even worry about it.

Probably about 15 dollars (15 percent tip like at a restaurant)

sometimes you don't need to

Typically $1-2 per day.

Depends what country you're in. Usually 1-2 dollars is ok.
